Communities

Over the years, Liberty Insurance Berhad has contributed to a number of organisations in line with our CSR objectives to help and look after the social welfare of the underprivileged institutions and in encouraging community engagement among our staff.

We aligned our efforts to share the joy of the four major festivals namely Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year with the communities we serve. Our employees at all levels have participated in a variety of activities that make communities a better place to live and work.

As part of the Liberty Mutual Group, our community efforts will continue as part of the Serve with Liberty program.

Serve with Liberty 2018

For the 4th consecutive year, the Serve with Liberty global CSR initiative program was organised on 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th May 2018 at Sungai Tua and Sungai Tekala Recreational Forest reserves in Selangor. Collaborating with Selangor State Forestry Department, the initiative was a joint effort in aiding the agency towards the sustainability of the forest reserves.

223 participants from head office joined our efforts to preserve some of the green lungs of Klang Valley during the Serve With Liberty week by planting new trees, repainting public facilities, river and camping site cleanup, amongst other activities that were organized for the week.

Many employees agreed that  the initiative had given them  a better understanding on how important it is for them to preserve the environment especially for current and future generation. The initiative had made them more appreciative of nature and at the same time an increased awareness to continuously give back to the community they live in.

Chua Sze Keong from Actuarial & Analytics department was glad to be participated in this year’s initiative and contribute to the environment. “I think it is a great opportunity to be part of SWL because this particular outdoor activity is good for our body and mind as we are always in the office facing our laptops. I am glad that I can be part of the team to contribute to our community and help care for the environment”.

Maizura Latef from Internal Audit department shared, “what I look forward to SWL every year is the teamwork it brings, cutting across employees who rarely get the chance to converse with each other, contributing their time and energy to this initiative! It also gives us an opportunity to get to know each other better among colleagues. This year, SWL presented a different experience; a chance to visit the forest reserve, helping to preserve our environment and painting a public facility in the forest. It is definitely a one of kind experience that everyone must have!”

Serve with Liberty 2017

For the 3rd consecutive year, the Serve With Liberty global CSR initiative program was organised on 8th to 12th May 2017 at various soup kitchens located within the vicinity of Liberty Malaysia’s office premise reaching out to the community and people in need of a decent meal.

Almost the entire work force of LIB based at head office joined the soup kitchen to feed the homeless, urban poor, needy and destitute community during the SWL week. Feeding these marginalised groups was only the introduction portion for us to this community. Our primary objectives was to spend our week with them, lending an ear, interacting and making them feel welcome within our society and accepting them the way they are. This community service was also meant to progressively peel off any misconceptions we or the homeless may have of each other.

The initiative was followed by branches serving their local community during the week. Below are some of their photos during the event:

NORTHERN 1:

The program was held on Friday, 12th May 2017 at Dewan Serbaguna Persatuan OKU Daerah Sik Kedah (POKUS) and participated by 20 LIB employees from all branches in Northern 1. Attended by 200 participants from Persatuan OKU Daerah Sik Kedah, breakfast and lunch were served to all invited participants by staffs where they had an opportunity to get to know all the participants personally with performances by the members of POKUS.

There were also presentation of aids such as wheel chairs, crutches, walking sticks/cane, adult diapers and handful of Liberty gift bags prepared by staffs. It was a great turn-out and we received positive response from the members.

Northern 1 staffs also visited numerous homes of those bed-ridden and disabled, and handed over some aids such as wheel chairs, walking sticks/cane, diapers and some goodie bags. Staff also extended some assistance to do household chores at these houses. There were sad and emotional moments for staffs experiencing first hand, the impoverish conditions of the houses and the hardship faced by these marginalised group. On a personal level, employees also contributed to the disabled participants during the visits.

EAST COAST :

Activities in session were a “Gotong-Royong” session, cooking, lunch with the children and providing basic grocery, stationaries and daily utility needs. It was a day well spent experiencing the children’s joy, laughter and their appreciation.

“We owe it to ourselves and to the next generation to conserve the environment so that we can bequeath our children a sustainable world that benefit all” (Wangari Maathai – Kenyan Environmental and Political Activist)

For this year, the Malaysian team went to Zoo Negara as volunteers for the zoo – contributing by completing the different tasks lined up for each employee. Some helped to repaint the animal show areas and enclosures, some did planting, and some helped to clean up the animal shelters and were given the opportunity to feed the animals – a rare opportunity for most people!

A long-time employee of over 15 years, Joo See from Marketing & Business Development division shared, “It is actually my first time volunteering here in Zoo Negara and it has been very exciting and fun! For me, it is a very positive thing to give back to the people especially the children, because by helping to upkeep the zoo, it can remain open for many more years to come and everyone will have the opportunity to visit the animals and watch the performances.”

Mohamed Asadullah Amanulla 28, from Internal Audit department was glad to be part of the gardening team, as he is one who appreciates gardening – using the activity to unwind after a long day at work. “The Serve with Liberty programme enables us to get out of the office, away from our air-conditioned environment and sweat a little. It’s a good thing what we are doing here today, setting a good example for others by replanting the trees that we have chopped down. I do hope that there will be many others following in our footsteps and volunteering to help at Zoo Negara,” he commented.

Pui Yee from the Marketing & Business Development division last visited Zoo Negara when she was about eight years old. “It is interesting because it has been a very long time since I’ve been here. Being in Zoo Negara now as an adult makes the experience different but still very interesting. It is a very positive activity because it gives us the opportunity to meet colleagues from the other departments. Although we all work in the same company, we don’t often have the chance to mingle. This programme allows us to make new friends and get to know each other better,” she said.

First time Zoo Negara visitor Dasmon from Kajang branch found the entire experience new. “To me, it means a lot to be part of the ‘Serve with Liberty’ programme. It is also a great opportunity for me to get out of the city and see all these greenery. It is not every day that we get to visit the zoo and have the chance to see all these different types of animals,” he shared.
