Throughout the years, the Company that is now known as Liberty Insurance Berhad has seen several transformations. It was first founded as Southeast Asia Insurance in 1977, focusing on motor insurance. Following DRB-HICOM’s acquisition of a majority share in 1995 and UOB coming on board as a shareholder in 2002, the Company expanded its scope of expertise to cover motor insurance and bancassurance. It was then renamed Uni.Asia General Insurance in 2003.
The change of name to Liberty Insurance Berhad follows the completion of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Group’s acquisition of the majority share from Uni.Asia Capital Sdn. Bhd. in July 2014 - through its subsidiary Liberty Seguros.

Today, Liberty Insurance Berhad reaches Malaysians through its distribution network of 6 regional offices, 25 branches, approximately 714 POS Malaysia outlets, 3 franchise holders, 118 franchise dealers and more than 1,846 agents. It is a MYEG Insurance partner and a Bancassurance partner of United Overseas Bank. The network is supported by the team at its Kuala Lumpur headquarters.
